Subject outline

In this unit students will extend previous knowledge gained from second year Biochemistry related to organelle biosynthesis, gene expression and RNA biology, cancer, immunology and neurobiochemistry. The practical work will involve an intergrated semester-long practical where the students will learn more advanced molecular biology and protein purification techniques. In addition there will be practicals focused on cell biology including flow cytometry, apoptosis and fluorescent microscopy. Students will also gain further experience in general experimental laboratory skills, in experimental design and data interpretation.
