Subject outline

In this subject students survey the major art movements of twentieth-century European, American and Australian modernism, focusing on the modern art centres of Paris and New York. Studies include Fauvism, Cubism and Dada from the early century through Pop, Minimalism and Conceptual art in the postwar period and up to Postmodernism. Students will develop skills in visual analysis and the use of primary sources to achieve an understanding of the history of modern art and the key concept of the avant-garde.
