Subject outline

In this subject students will develop knowledge and practical skills in the production of marine freshwater finfish species in aquaculture facilities. The following areas will be explored: national and international perspectives on marine and freshwater finfish aquaculture; analysis of globally and nationally important marine and freshwater finfish species; global production statistics; advanced culture techniques; evaluation of potential marine and freshwater finfish species for future aquaculture production; physical and nutritional requirements of marine and freshwater finfish; analysis of the life cycles, production techniques and cycles of Australian native fish species; hatchery and production facilities for the culture of selected marine and freshwater finfish; hygiene, quarantine, maintenance and monitoring in marine and freshwater finfish aquaculture facilities; techniques for the breeding and rearing of selected marine and Australian native finfish species.
