Subject outline

Students are acquainted with the financial environment in which business operates and are introduced to certain principles associated with financial management decisions. The subject is primarily concerned with decisions confronting senior financial executives with respect to the investment, financing and dividend policies of a firm. Students study the fundamentals of financial management, including the valuation of the firm, principles relating to capital investment, capital structure, dividend policy and the cost and sources of business finance. Specific topics include the principles of investment and portfolio theory and the introduction of risk analysis in capital budgeting decisions, the cost of capital, current asset management, capital structure, dividend decisions and interest rates.
