Subject outline
Visual cultures may span art works, design works and film and TV, as well as other visual forms including advertising and the internet. In the process of analysing visual culture we turn to a wide range of criticism and theory including cultural theory, art/design history as well as philosophy. Students present a seminar, write an essay and produce an assessable journal that records process, development and outcomes. In the lectures we look at key themes relating to contemporary art and design practice through examining works by practitioners. Assessment and feedback sessions provide students with the critical skills to evaluate the outcomes.
