Subject outline
Communicating and acting ethically are essential to our everyday living in the marketplace, with co-workers, family and friends. In this subject students will develop awareness of, and improve, their own practice of communication ethics by reflecting on the fundamental ethical ideas of major philosophers such as Aristotle, Kant, Nietzsche, Bentham, Mill and Levinas. Students will develop and evaluate their own value portrait and learn the benefits of applying it to ethical issues in diverse inter-cultural workplace, media, face-to-face and virtual contexts. As well as learning the practical steps involved in ethical deliberation, decision making and communicating well, they will gain an understanding of the significance of critically questioning the main ethical theories that underpin social relations.
