Subject outline
The purpose of this subject is to study the ways in which literary, screen and mixed media texts engender meaning, for their readers/viewers, and within the broader networks of culture. We will explore the role played by a range of texts from popular culture in the construction, regulation and reproduction of gendered identities. In addition we will consider some textual challenges to dominant ideologies of gender and other identities.
