Subject outline
This is a practical introduction to the use and interpretation of elementary quantitative methods in social research. As such it provides students with basic skills required to analyse quantitative data and be critical consumers of such research. Large scale social survey data is available to students to practice quantitative research skills and test hypotheses about a wide range of social issues. Students would gain valuable experience in basic research design, data preparation and analysis, application of survey research, report writing, together with practical experience in the use of SPSS software on a desktop computer. Overall this subject provides training in theoretically-informed empirical research and contributes to improving students' research skills for further study programs and boosting their employability for various industries.
