PSY5MXA

2014

Credit points: 30

Subject outline

In this subject students develop a proposal for research under individual supervision with their research supervisor. Students conduct a critical reading of a relevant research literature in psychology guided by their supervisor. Students are further expected to be able to demonstrate their proficiency in database searching and will be directed to undergo training in upgrading their database research skills. Students are required to attend five research seminars and are required to lodge an application to the Human Ethics Committee as part of their preparation for the conducting of the research. The research should be conducted in the broad area of counselling or health psychology, or address an issue or concern in relation to the practise of psychology. Research design may incorporate quantitative and/ or qualitative methods. Alternatives to conducting a traditional piece of empirical research are available but must be negotiated with the research supervisor on an individual basis.
