ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND COMMUNITY IMPACT ASSESSMENT
PLA5ESI
2014
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
Decision-makers in government, international corporations, and non-government aid and development agencies, are required to consider the potential impacts of proposed policies and infrastructure developments on communities. In industrialised and industrialising countries policy systems identify, evaluate and recommend about potential environmental, economic, health, social and cultural consequences of proposed developments - especially ones that are large scale, sensitive, hazardous, deplete non-renewable resources, politically volatile. In this subject, students will gain an understanding of integrated impact assessment, enabling students to engage specialist agencies/consultants to conduct a wide range of impact assessments, and to critically analyse impact assessment outcomes. Students will examine the complexity of scoping, developing and implementing impact assessments using a variety of case studies from both Australia and overseas.
