Subject outline

In this subject students will be introduced to human pregnancy and will be assisted to provide women-centred midwifery care from pre-conception to the onset of labour. Students build on their knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and behavioural health sciences in developing an understanding of normal pregnancy. They have the opportunity to learn the role of the midwife in sharing information, choices and providing support to empower the woman and her family during the antenatal period. The subject provides opportunities for students to develop reflective, evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making skills to enable them to function in antenatal care provision.
