Subject outline
This subject offers an introduction to the study of criminology. It examines the development and nature of different criminological perspectives and methods and explores the implications of these for defining, understanding and responding to crime. The operations of criminal justices systems, in particular, the role of police, courts and corrections are also considered. Through examination of contemporary issues, debates and case studies concerning crime, law and order, attention is drawn to the relationship that exists between criminology, criminal justice systems, social policy and social order.
