Subject outline
In this unit students will examine contractual, tortions and antitrust aspects of professional sports in the USA. Students will also cover issues relating to amateur sports law and the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the governing body for collegiate sports. In particular, students will examine the rules, regulations and statutes dealing with the relationship between student athletes, universities and professional teams. Other areas to be addressed include freedom of speech of athletes, the misconduct of athletes and how the commissioner of each professional league deals with these issues. Students will also touch upon disability law in sports and how the Disabilities Act of 1990 has been applied in the sports area.
