Subject outline
In this subject students undertake theoretical studies at the University, and a three-week (equivalent) supervised, professional practice placement in the Health Information Service of an allocated, regional healthcare facility. Students achieve practice competencies and reinforce professional discipline knowledge. Students undertake key functions on placement to gain understanding of the management, informatics, data analysis and clinical classificatory roles of hospital health information managers. Prior to placement, students are introduced to health information management, health information science, and health informatics via classroom teaching and extensive readings. Regular contact between students and La Trobe University Academic Supervisors is maintained during the placement via the University's Learning Management System, telephone, on-site visits, and email communications.

Prerequisites If student is enrolled in HZHHIM - Bachelor of Health Sciences and Master of Health Information Management must pass HIM3PPA and HIM3HMB. If student is enrolled in HBHIMI - Bachelor of Health Information Management (International) must pass HIM3PPA and HIM3HMB. If students enrolled in Master of Health Information Management (HMHIM) no rules apply.
