Subject outline

In this subject students compare and evaluate strategies and models appropriate to teaching adults in various contexts. Students who wish to expand their teaching skills will be assisted to practise some methods of teaching knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to their teaching situations. Discussions and class activities will include the following issues: the relationship between teaching strategy and learning outcomes; the influence of social and individual factors on teaching and learning strategies appropriate to students' contexts; developing a framework for teaching through critical analysis of models and reflection on personal experience as a teacher; how adults learn; strategies for evaluating teaching and learning. Students will have the opportunity to pursue their own area of interest and to discuss their theories and practices with fellow class members in various areas of adult education.
