Subject outline
In this subject students are introduced to concepts, processes and outcomes of cultural heritage management. We take a holistic approach to identifying, asessing and managing the tangible heritage of built and archaeological places, landscapes, objects and the intangible heritage of stories, traditional knowledge, songs and language. Using Australian and international case studies we explore core issues in conservation management planning including significance assessment, the inclusion of multiple stakeholders and values, identifying impacts and managing change, interpretation and sustainability. Students will also be introduced to the regulatory framework governing cultural heritage management in Australia and the roles and relationships of various professions involved in the industry.
