Credit points: 15
Subject outline
The world is increasingly understood through maps and associated images. This subject introduces concepts and perceptions of geographical space and relationships in different cultures, past and present. It introduces fundamental principles of mapping, tracing developments in techniques and visual presentation from the earliest instances of mapping, through the Age of Exploration, to the modern era of digital cartography. The subject engages with our many uses of maps across disciplines, focussing on critical and creative visual thinking; the tutorial sessions provide hands-on experience in the development and analysis of spatial information.
