Subject outline

In this subject, you will explore the evidence that underpins the provision of prosthetic devices for persons with transtibial, ankle disarticulation and partial foot amputations. This will include principles of clinical assessment of clients with amputations, clinical decision making and prescription considerations within the prosthetic treatment process. Evidence based prosthetic treatment of various amputation levels is presented in the context of contemporary clinical practice. You will learn to apply your knowledge of anatomy, pathology and biomechanics to prosthetic management and the interdisciplinary rehabilitation for persons with lower limb amputations.

02. Investigate, evaluate and analyse lower limb prosthetic gait, gait deviations, and biomechanical functions.
03. Critically analyse, evaluate and justify selection of components to meet the needs of a range of clients with lower limb amputations.
04. Evaluate and reflect on the needs of clients with lower limb amputations and prescribe prosthetic limbs in context of client goals and outcomes.
