Subject outline

In this subject you will be introduced to a range of medical conditions relating to gerontology, as well as to individuals with special needs. Out of hospital management of gerontological patients will be considered, and the physical, psychosocial and psychological aspects relating to ageing will be discussed and applied to simulated learning experiences. You will also combine theoretical knowledge, with practical skills, to effectively manage patients with a range of long-term medical conditions necessitating specialised and extended care measures. Particular emphasis will be placed on reflective practice and decision-making, communication and problem-solving skills needed to manage these specific population groups.
