In this subject students will further develop skills in the application of conventions and rules for classification of diseases and health interventions using the current Australian version of the World Health Organisation's International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-AM) and the Australia Classification for Health Interventions (ACHI). Students will refine skills in medical record abstraction and interpretation, including clinical terminology and pharmacology to support application of developing health classification skills.

01. Analyse and interpret the clinical content of the medical record to identify all conditions, diagnoses and interventions.
02. Using independent judgement, select and retrieve the appropriate conditions, diagnoses and interventions that require classification and application of the Australian Coding Standards and conventions.
03. Translate the selected medical statements to ICD-10-AM and ACHI codes, within the framework of the Australian Coding Standards.
04. Demonstrate specialised skills in all of the classificatory processes, within the parameters of expected industry timeframes and levels of accuracy.
