Subject outline
In this subject, students consider their roles as citizens and teachers in a global context. They explore global influences on education and teaching and learning, including international trends and political, economic and environmental drivers. In this context, they explore connections between globalisation, social and environmental sustainability, and their approach to teaching and learning in Australian schools. Students critically examine concepts of sustainability and sustainability education (research, curriculum and pedagogy) in global, Australian and Victorian contexts. They also reflect on the role of teachers as global citizens. This work culminates in students employing the perspectives of global citizenship and sustainability thinking to design a teaching strategy that enhances student learning about global issues as they manifest in local environmental, social and educational settings.
