Subject outline

In this subject students are introduced to the Bible, its composition, chronology, genres, and provenance, attending to both the Hebrew Scriptures and the Christian Testament. Students explore the historical, political, geographical, socio-cultural and religious frameworks behind the production of biblical texts. They learn to apply a variety of methods of textural analysis, based on the principles of Catholic biblical criticism. Students research and apply a number of methodologies for teaching scripture texts in the primary classroom, and explore the understandings and uses of the Bible by Christian communities and individuals.
