In this subject students are provided with experiential learning opportunities to integrate theory with practise at an advanced level. Students will be given the opportunity to demonstrate appropriate professional relationships and integrate their knowledge of organisational contexts gained from their first field placement. Through this professionally supervised practice experience, students will be provided with constructive feedback on their performance and will be challenged to critically self-reflect on their practise. Students will have opportunities to further develop skills in the interviewing, assessment and intervention processes required for practice, along with skills in research, at an advanced level.

Prerequisites Students must be admitted in one of the following courses: HMSK, HMSKB, HMSKW, HMSKM, (MSW) and must have, and passed SWP5APC and SWP5FPC and SWP5IIC and SWP5SPA.

Co-requisites Students admitted in course HMSK, HMSKB, HMSKW, HMSKM (MSW) must be enrolled in SWP5LSW at the same time.

Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes

01. Integrate social work knowledge, values and skills to solve a range of complex social work problems.

Activities:
During placement, students will undertake social work assessment, intervention, referral and evaluation tasks with minimal support from the Field Educator. They will have the opportunity to work collaboratively in professional teams and utilise research skills and knowledge to identify researchable issues within practice. Throughout their placement students will utilise and demonstrate clear and effective inter-personal communication skills.

02. Critically evaluate professional knowledge, values and skills to demonstrate adaptability and responsibility as a social work practitioner.

Activities:
Through effective use of supervision students will be given opportunities to demonstrate a process of critical self-reflection and recognise and understand their own assumptions and values and how these may impact on practice.

03. Critically analyse and evaluate the impact of complex organisational contexts on practice.

Activities:
During supervision and reflection, students will describe some of the current debates, social issues/and or politics that influence the placement field of practice. They will also be given opportunity to reflect on how organisational policies and procedures including duty of care, risk-management, and the legal rights of consumers have influenced their practice

04. Apply and appraise professional knowledge and skills in the context of the AASW Practice Standards with autonomy and expert judgement as a social work practitioner.

Activities:
While on placement, students will Identify professional behaviours that have enhanced their social work practice and describe which professional values and ethics informed their professional practice. Students will also articulate specific skills and knowledge learning goals for their first year as a social work practitioner
