Mobility and migration are increasingly transforming work, travel, consumption and social relations in the 21st century. Different constellations of physical and virtual mobility and immobility, proximity and distance shape everyday experiences of work and life overall. This subject introduces students to key dimensions of mobility and immobility and their challenges and opportunities in contemporary society. Case studies include internal and international labour migration; daily travel and tourism; transnational work and family lives; restrictions, representations and politics of mobility. Students will develop a critical understanding of the ways in which movements of people, goods and media shape contemporary society.
