Subject outline
Understanding how local contexts and lives are shaped by global processes is at the core of contemporary sociology. In this subject students choose one of four global challenges: either (1) migration and asylum, (2) gender inclusion and exclusion, (3) social and economic inequality, or (4) climate change, and consider its impact on their local community. Supported and yet self-guided online modules and face-to face seminars invite exploration and encourage critical reflection of the topic chosen. This subject deals with local aspects of global phenomena and enables students, step-by-step, to conceive, refine and develop innovative responses to their chosen challenge. This subject addresses the La Trobe 'Innovation and Entrepreneurship' Essential by equipping you to understand and respond to the local expression and experience of global issues
