Subject outline
Urban design is about considering the qualities and layout of a place to ensure that it works well and contributes to the quality of life of the people that experience it. This extends far beyond the narrow aesthetic considerations that some people think of when they think about urban design. Urban design considers questions of safety, comfort, economics, social equity, ecological performance as well as matters of appearance. This subject aims to develop your knowledge of and skills in site planning and urban design through the study of theory and practice. The course places a strong emphasis on practical projects and includes participation in a structured site planning -urban design project.
