Subject outline
In this subject, we invite you as future health professionals to consider issues relevant to the health needs of a diverse multicultural population in Australia in terms of gender. We will explore the impact of gender (in terms of theory and impact) in relation to individuals, family, religion and culture, the health industry (the medicalization of health), sexuality (and the impact of sexually transmitted infections), violence, parenting (including post- natal depression), men's health, minority groups (such as prisoners) and the impact of climate change. Through lectures, directed reading and tutorials, students will explore how gender intersects with health within social, cultural and political contexts.
