Subject outline

In this five week subject students will expand and extend their knowledge and skills gained in OCT5ECC. Students will describe, critique and apply principles of assessment, intervention and case management for youth related to their capacities to engage in activities, occupations and participation in community life. Intervention principles will incorporate those aimed at personal recovery and / or adaption, as well as environmental supports and barriers, including advocacy, organisational change and environmental adaption. Students will develop, articulate and justify through written and verbal presentations, evidence based OT assessments and interventions. In this subject students will have the opportunity to continue to develop and demonstrate effective communication and collaboration, as well as investigative and critical thinking skills.

Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes

01. Investigate a range of occupational models, choose and justify the selection of a particular occupational model to guide youth intervention processes.

Activities:
As part of the oral presentation, and associated written plan, the students learn to identify, apply and justify occupational models in their intervention planning

02. Analyse cases involving young people to select and apply appropriate practice models to guide intervention choices

Activities:
Professional concepts seminar: Scoring and interpreting standardised assessments

03. Critically analyse complex cases, and justify the selection, administration and interpretation of assessments for young people

Activities:
Professional Concepts seminar: Administration of assessments suitable for use with youth and adolescents, eg #mental health risk assessment# standard procedures with all clients.

04. Design intervention plans that integrate personal and contextual factors related to each young person including their physical, institutional, social and cultural environments.

Activities:
Oral presentation of clinical intervention plans for complex youth cases

05. Demonstrate professional reasoning to design, advocate & develop structured occupational interventions for complex cases involving young people
