Subject outline
The subject will consider ethical and legal issues related to technologically enabled crime and criminal procedure. It will analyse forensic considerations such as the digital identity, admissibility of computer data searches, warrants, production orders, access to subscriber information and data retention laws and principles will be considered, in addition to entrapment,encryption and the expectation of privacy. We will also look at search and seizure, evidentiary issues, and various legal and regulatory environments in cyberspace, and examine how emerging technologies challenge existing laws,social norms, and criminal procedure.
