In this subject students will develop contacts with, and work in, a media organisation. Students will develop an understanding of issues internal to the organisation such as its goals, structure, management and work practices. In addition they will be expected to develop an understanding of the organisation's relationship to its clients, audience and other parts of the media industry.

01. Students acquire knowledge and sensitivity to issues associated with workplace culture, including, insurance, confidentiality, ethics and personal responsibility.

Students explore the legal and ethical framework in which they are expected to work as a professional in the media industry and as representatives of LaTrobe University on student placement.

02. Students develop improved inter-personal communication skills.

Activities:
Students examine some basic techniques before their placement to improve their communication skills and to deal with criticism in the workplace.

03. Students examine their personal interests and professional goals in terms of appropriate placements opportunities.

Activities:
Students maintain a reflective journal of all activity in this unit and engage in a pre and post placement individual interview with subject coordinator, and an individual evaluation with their workplace supervisor.

04. Students experience professional work.

Activities:
At least 150 hours of student placement in an approved workplace.

05. Students prepare, plan and organise all the details, protocols of an individual professional internship placement.
