In this subject students develop as English language and literacy teachers, commencing with an understanding of language development in the pre-school years, transitioning into early primary. Students will develop a theoretical and practical knowledge of kindergarten and primary curriculum programs, teaching approaches and assessment practices. In this subject students focus on their development as English language and literacy teachers. A core focus will be on interpreting and creating text with a specific focus on reading, writing, and development of oral language, plus visual and critical literacy. This will include models of multimodal literacy; innovative and critical pedagogies; structured teaching approaches, and an understanding of the developmental nature of language and literacy learning.
