Subject outline

In this subject, you will extend learning from DTN4DPA, DTN5IPB, DTN5ITB and DTN5FSM to progress your skills with the aim of reaching the level of competency for entry-level dietetic practice in individual dietetic case management, one of the key domains of competency required by the national accrediting body. Translation of the theory of individual dietetic case management into practice will occur through during a placement in a clinical setting. During this placement, you will undertake individual dietetic case management of patients/clients with specific diseases and conditions encountered during their placement and integrate all aspects of the dietetic care process. You will integrate hospital food service into management of inpatients; provide nutrition education and counselling to patients; participate in multi-disciplinary team management and discharge planning for patients; and advocate for nutrition services, management and interventions. By the end of the placement you will be expected to manage a caseload of patients.
