Subject outline

In this subject, you will learn how to apply the maths you learned at secondary school to make financial and investment decisions. In so doing, you will learn to make sense of accounting and financial information and learn how to use that understanding to solve financial problems of both a personal and business nature. You will apply accounting and financial concepts to solve problems, in a range of business contexts: to balance the local footy clubs books; to determine whether an event will break even; to manage the working capital of a tourist destination; to estimate the return of an investment; to develop a budget for the business plan you will pitch to the board; or to define a savings plan to fund your own retirement. Working independently, and with your class leader and other students, so as to provide you with constant peer support and feedback, you will not only learn the maths, but also the sense, of accounting and finance.
