Credit points: 15
Subject outline
BOT3PBR extends theory covered in BOT3PBT to the research environment. Lab projects, in small groups of 2 to 3 students, are closely aligned with current and innovative research and are supervised by experienced researchers. It exposes students to a real laboratory/research environment where students participate in the development, implementation, analysis and reporting of a current research project using advanced molecular biology techniques. Early in the semester students will present a project outline asposter with a short oral presentation. At the end of the semester, each group will present their work to the entire cohort and departmental academics and post-graduate students in the form of a 15 minute oral presentation, and a written scientific report modelled on a scientific publication including abstract, introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion and References.BOT3PBR addresses LaTrobe's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Essential which entails developing the ability to tackle problems creatively, generating new ideas, taking calculated risks and creating change to achieve ambitions now and in the future.
