Subject outline
In this subject students explore the impact of screen and sound texts on film spectators, television viewers, mobile publics and online browsers. Students draw on key concepts from spectatorship theory to explore identification, empathy, affect, ethics and embodiment in different screen and sound environments. Students undertake close analysis of screen and sound texts, write an individual essay and present a small-group creative project in class. The subject addresses La Trobe's Global Citizenship essential. Global Citizenship entails deep appreciation of how we live in an interconnected world, being able to recognise the global context of concepts, act across cultures and boundaries, and work with diverse communities, now and in the future.

- Tutorial exercises and Assessment 1 require students to analyse the concept of identification and apply it to a range of real-world and fictional scenarious available to them through film and television. Students use central and acentral imagining to relate to situations of global significance in terms of ethics, empathy and affect.

- Students learn discipline specific concepts by researching and reporting on a public screen and sound environment. They present their observational and quantitavie research in tutorials, listen actively to feedback, and show respect to other students when asking questions. They manage their time and resources effectively.

- Activities:
