Subject outline

This refugee based clinical course is presented in a social justice context. Students learn about human rights issues by working on real client files and assisting local Non-Government Organisations (NGOs). A simulation exercise deepens understanding of the development and implementation of Australian immigration law and policy. Practical legal skills of communication, legal research, file management, writing and working in a team are developed. Mindfulness training techniques are used to enhance practice and study. The course involves one day of legal placement each week in addition to weekly seminars, and may require out-of-hours work to meet deadlines.
