Subject outline
This subject will consider the relationship between people and animals in ethics, law, and society. Topics to be considered will be chosen from current issuesin animal law and may include the legal classification of animals, companion animals, animals in the wild, regulation of the use of animals for food and entertainment, anti-cruelty laws, live export, animals used in scientific experimentation, zoos and circuses, international wildlife trafficking and international developments including public interest litigation in animal law. The subject also considers the political and social context in which law and policy is formulated and applied in animal law matters. Students will also have the opportunity to enhance their research and writing skills.
