WORK READINESS PROGRAM: PREPARING FOR AN INTERNSHIP
HUS2WRP
2018
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
This work readiness subject enables students to plan to extend their formal academic learning beyond the classroom. The subject addresses the La Trobe Innovation and Entrepreneurship Essential by enabling students to prepare for an individual work internship. Students who enroll in this subject must arrive with their own idea for a work or community internship. The subject does not teach you your project. Instead, the subject facilitates you to work in planning your own project. This means you are assisted to scope a potential internship properly, the better to impress your potential work or community host. Students are supported first in defining a project and informing themselves thoroughly about the industry or community sector in which the project might be located. Students then develop a project plan. The subject enables students to start to re-conceive their learning as a start-up, a career or even a vocation. Students are assisted in the planning and research that is needed before they can bring their learning from university into a fully-fledged work or community environment.

Special conditions Depending on the themes of the subject, students enrolling in HUS2WRP may be required to obtain (at their own expense) a Working with Children Police Check before enrolment. Students are expected to present in the first week of this subject with their own idea for a work or community placement. They are not expected, however, to have made contact with a host of their potential work or community placement. HUS2WRP helps you prepare in an informed, well-pitched and professional manner for that approach.
