SERVICE LEARNING OR A RESEARCH INTERNSHIP IN THE COMMUNITY
HUM2SLC
2018
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
The scope of studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences widen in this subject. Your studies escape the classroom. Depending on the instance, this subject provides an opportunity for students to work, either individually or else in a team, to help design and implement a project that either benefits a community organization or links to the work of a researcher in the Humanities and Social Sciences at La Trobe. The individual projects arise as an internship with a Humanities and Social Sciences researcher at La Trobe University. Before enrolling, a student seeking an individual internship must apply formally and in writing to a La Trobe researcher, obtaining his or her permission to enrol. By contrast, the group projects arise from partnerships La Trobe University has already arranged with community organizations to work with groups of La Trobe students. A student seeking to join in a group project simply enrols in the subject in the normal manner. By using active reflection, and by learning beyond the classroom, students use a service learning in this subject relate their academic studies to the community. https://latrobe.careerhub.com.au/Form.aspx?id=512844
