SPEECH PATHOLOGY PRACTICE E
HCS5SPE
2018
Credit points: 30
Subject outline
In this subject students attend 10-12 days of clinic in an adult or a paediatric setting, at La Trobe's Communication Clinic or an external facility. This placement may offer students experience of a specific nature eg. voice clinic, intensive fluency , paediatric feeding clinic etc, but it is not exclusively a specialist placement. This may take the form of one day per week over 10 weeks, or consist of a more intensive and/or varied period (eg intensive fluency program). Students continue to refine clinical skills, with the aim of achieving entry level on the COMPASS assessment . An exception to this is students who complete this subject out of sequence as their 2nd placement in final year, who will be passed if demonstrating "towards entry level" skills on COMPASS. In addition to placement, students will complete online modules covering a range of topics relevant to clinical practice.
