In this subject students will focus on input-output and state-space models of discrete-time systems, time response and stability analysis of sampled-data control systems, digital controller design and linear-quadratic optimal control.

01. Describe the fundamentals of digital control

Activities:
Lectures 1 and 2 are on the introduction of digital control and its associated mathematical tool.

02. Analyse the properties, characteristics and stability of sampled-data systems

Activities:
Lectures 3, 4 are on digital control system modelling, sampling and data hold. Lectures 5, 6 are on the analysis of open-loop and closed-loop sampled-data systems. Lectures 7-9 are on system time-response characteristics and stability analysis. Labs 1 and 2 and all assignments have tasks about system analysis.

03. Use control design software (Matlab Control System Toolbox) to conduct digital controller design

Activities:
Lectures 10-12 are on digital controller design. All labs focus on digital control system modelling, analysis and design, where students learn to use Matlab tools to implement sampled-data systems or design a digital controller.
