Subject outline

In this subject, students develop skills for econometrically analysing microeconomic units i.e. individuals and firms. First, students learn about the econometrics of (public or private) program evaluation. Second, techniques for analysing panel datasets of large number of individuals over short periods of time are covered. Both of these topics extend how techniques covered in ECM2IE are used. In the third topic, substantially different techniques for analysing problems where the decision variable is discrete or truncated are introduced. Individual heterogeneity and endogeneity problems will be covered where relevant. Applications are drawn from industrial economics, finance, labour economics and marketing.
