Subject outline

This subject will introduce students to amentor-style pedagogy, which encourages them to establish and direct an independent studio practice with a focus on both technical and conceptual development. Students will be expected to formulate and develop their own working methods and artistic direction and develop historical, theoretical and conceptual knowledge in which to critically place their work. In this subject students will work on longer projects and will be encouraged to explore various mediums to develop a broader critical understanding of their potential while also encouraging a hybrid-style practice. Learning will be in an open-studio model, with an emphasis on a strong studio practice. This will be complemented by a range of activities, including lectures, seminars, critique sessions and gallery visits.

03. Identify, analyse and discuss artists specific to your own practice, building a capacity to place your work within broader contemporary art discourse.
