Subject outline

In Studio Studies 3, students engage in and examine current issues in visual arts practice and theory. This investigation forms a context for the production of creative works, enabling the student to recognise approaches to contemporary themes in art practice. The critical analysis of contemporary art provides the framework for the students' own developing practice and in-depth of knowledge of 2D and 3D visual media. Project briefs simulate art world applications of artists' capacities by setting curatorial, thematic, and complex problems. This application of the artist's capabilities is further explored through studio practice leading to a personal interdisciplinary use of media. Students will demonstrate their approach through the creation of artworks, and identify and analyse several artists specific to their practice whose work creates a discourse or response to contemporary ethical and cultural issues in their creative, written and oral assignments. A growing understanding of how art worlds operate within the local and global fields further is enhanced by this research focus.
