In this first year subject students begin developing their clinical skills by observing an experienced clinical psychologist working with a client and students attend a case analysis meeting where cases from the La Trobe University Clinic are presented and discussed.

02. Demonstrate knowledge of counselling skills applied to the engagement of clients.

Activities:
Identifying therapeutic dynamics observed during client therapist sessions.

03. Demonstrate proficiency in the early stages of assessment, formulation and intervention in the context of the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy framework in working with clients.

Activities:
During supervision identifying the framework in which the therapy is being applied.

04. Review and analyse the observations made of clients and demonstrate clinical judgement and reasoning.

Activities:
Opportunities during written self-reflective practice.

05. Actively participate and articulate clinical reasoning within a clinical team.

Activities:
Initiate discussion during supervision and case meetings.

Observation of and participation in case meetings (26 hours)Trainees are required to have attended placements, including case observations and case analysis and met the requirements, within the degree, of 600 overall hours towards placement attendance.
