This subject provides an introduction to contemporary political economy. The major schools of political economy are examined with the student then choosing one of the schools as a means to better understand a particular event, issue or public policy challenge. The subject offers a pluralist introduction to the study of economic phenomena from a distinctively political and philosophical perspective. It has been specifically designed for students doing La Trobe's Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics but is also open to any student that has completed the first-year subject POL1PPE Politics,Philosophy and Economics.

Prerequisites: POL1PPE - the cornerstone subject in Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics. POL1PPE is open all students at La Trobe. It had enrolments of 150+ thus it can be expected to provide viable enrolments for POL2PPE.
