This subject gives students the opportunity to investigate an issue at the frontiers of research from one of the following areas: Metaphyscis, Epistemology, Ethics, Political Philosophy, European thought, Applied Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Language, Analytic Philosophy, Analytic-Continental Divide, European Philosophers, Philosophical Methods. Students take part in seminar discussions on one of the topic areas and present aspects their own research findings.

01. Locate, analyse, synthesise and critically evaluate ideas or arguments central to a philosophical problem in the field of knowledge/inquiry.

Activities:
Make a plan of your essay, setting out the problem and issues you have identified, a statement of how you propose to develop your argument to solve the problem, including how you propose to incorporate the views of others or deal with counter arguments.

02. Present a philosophical problem, identify the field of knowledge/inquiry to which it belongs, develop and justify the steps you will follow in arguing the case for your own solution to the problem.

Conduct a literature search, prepare a review for presentation to the class and subsequent incorporation into your essay.

03. Write a sustained defence of a philosophical claim based on your critical assessment of an issue at the frontiers of philosophical research and debate in the field of knowledge/inquiry under examination.
