Subject outline
In this subject, students will be given the opportunity to explore the psychological and social dimensions of the experience and management of disability, as well as the psychological processes that can aid understanding of the individual's response to disability and rehabilitation. Content is organised into two areas. Topics in rehabilitation psychology include responses to stress and trauma, adjustment to disabling conditions, developmental perspectives, learning theories and behavioural rehabilitation principles and techniques. Topics in social influences in rehabilitation include disabling attitudes, empowerment, handicapping social attitudes, and group differences in rehabilitation outcome achievements.
