Subject outline
This subject starts with an intensive study block to prepare you for clinical placement. You will develop oral health instruction skills, incorporating motivational interviewing into your patient management. You will develop new skills in non-surgical periodontal instrumentation and adhesive restorations in deciduous and permanent teeth. You will also develop initial information gathering skills, clinical observation techniques and treatment planning skills, applying them in a clinical setting. Other skills include inquiring on and documenting pain history, differential diagnosis, pulp pathology and radiographic practical skills and assessment. Theories of minimal intervention and clinical prevention of dental diseases will be linked to clinical procedures. You will be introduced to intra-oral local anaesthesia (theory and practice) and will learn to develop new clinical skills in the areas of pulp therapy, preformed metal crowns, deciduous exodontia and orthodontics.

02. Perform minimal intervention dentistry in deciduous and permanent teeth in a strictly supervised clinical setting.
