Credit points: 30
Subject outline
Mental Health & Illness consolidates nursing skills and person-centred care with a focus on mental health and illness. Through lectures, online activities, workshops, clinical skills laboratories and a clinical placement you will explore common challenges experienced by individuals with mental health and substance abuse issues. The clinical practicum will allow you to integrate theoretical principles to the nursing practice of individuals with mental health issues. To achieve the learning outcomes of this subject you will be expected to complete a range of written, verbal and clinical assessments within a 12-week period. This subject addresses La Trobe's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Essential. Specifically, you will use your creativity to develop a mental health care promotional activity. This will include developing skills as a social entrepreneur to collaborate and effectively network with industry partners, peers and health care consumers.
